Artist Vs. Reality - Round 1

Every once in awhile I step into that place called reality and not always by choice. The cool part of being an artist is that you can help shape your reality and of others with your craft. So where does creativity end and reality begin? Perhaps this is why we get a little crazy at times. The point of this all is not where is takes us but what we do along the way.

Being a professional artist

Being a professional artist

Being a professional artist has its ups and downs. On the upside you can set your own hours, be independent, meet exciting people and regularly go on new adventures. Not to mention gallery shows with your name and likeness all over it.
The downfall is you have to ALWAYS be on top of your game meaning, filling all kinds of paperwork, taxes, loans, working all the time, insurance (can be hard to find if you are independent), getting into galleries and shows, not to mention you actually have to be responsible once and a while or you will fail.
My point being, as a working artisit, I find the art industry is just like all other industries. Some inhearently just have more flakes and jerks. In the end, it is what you make of it. Myself, I'm having a blast with a few minor exceptions. My advice, stay optimistic or become optimistic, and love what you do.

Ooh La La

I am traveling far and wide this summer... Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Detroit (DEMF is Memorial day weekend), Cleveland, some tiny islands and more. Of course I will be shooting all of them and hopefully seeing some familiar faces at each stop. Please drop a line if you get the chance.

Although this entry will give you some conversation pointers and a bit of humor. Because humor is still the best aphrodisiac. Life has really thrown some interesting curves at me. For starters, I am now attending..... Art School!!!!! As if you really expected something else. Well, I have 3 years of computer information systems under my belt. I guess that makes me a sexy nerd. About the school, it ROCKS, it's the Academy of Art University of San Francisco. It, by it I mean the city, is a melting pot of culture, beauty and a few other unmentionables because... As beautiful it is, it is also decadent. I don't need to say anything else about that.. Maybe later... Other wise, look for many new postings, prints and the like.
